Wythenshawe’s Emirates FA Cup journey came to an end following a difficult afternoon yesterday against Bury at Gigg Lane.

The Ammies had an early opportunity to take the lead, but the hosts opened the scoring through Connor Pye in the 32nd minute. Bury added five more before the interval, with Pye completing his hat-trick alongside goals from Tom Carr, Kai Evans and Mo Touray.
Owen Robinson and a second from Evans completed an 8–0 victory for Bury after the break.
While it was a painful result, manager James Kinsey gave full credit to the opposition and described Bury as a side operating above their current level.

He also acknowledged the lessons for both the players and management team, particularly in handling difficult spells against strong opposition.
“It’s one of the toughest days I’ve had,” Kinsey said. “The shame is in the scoreline, but we’ve come here and been well beaten by a top, top team.
“It was a learning curve for us as management and as players. We’ll come up against those situations again and we have to manage them better.”
The result brings an end to an FA Cup run which began with an excellent 3–1 victory over Clitheroe in the Preliminary Round.

Attention now returns to the Northern Premier League West Division, where the Ammies have made an encouraging start despite dealing with a number of injuries.
Kinsey added: “We’re in an unbelievable position in the league. The lads have been exceptional and we’re looking forward to Tuesday. I wish it was tomorrow.”
Wythenshawe travel to fifth-placed Witton Albion on Tuesday evening for a 7.45pm kick-off, with the squad determined to respond quickly and continue the positive work already done in the league.
