Wythenshawe Football Club added another trophy to the cabinet on Saturday with a commanding 3-0 victory over AFC Liverpool in the NWCFL Champions Cup at the Avensure Community Stadium.
The Ammies controlled the contest from the opening stages and took the lead after eight minutes. Aaron Dwyer held the ball up before finding the overlapping Eoin Charles, whose perfectly delivered cross was headed home by George Sankey at the back post.
Dwyer doubled the advantage before half-time, emphatically converting from the penalty spot after Prince Anuniru had been brought down inside the area.
Wythenshawe remained in control throughout the second half, limiting AFC Liverpool’s opportunities while continuing to press forward. The victory was completed in the closing stages when Jack Banister found Joel Ankers, who released Sandro Da Costa to fire into the roof of the net.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved 3-0 victory and another piece of silverware for James Kinsey’s side, providing a positive platform ahead of the new league campaign.
Building on a historic season
The 2025/26 campaign was the most successful in Wythenshawe Football Club’s history, with an incredible 29 trophies won across approximately 60 teams.
The Men’s First Team completed a record-breaking NWCFL Premier Division campaign, becoming centurions on their way to the title and promotion. Manager James Kinsey was also recognised with the league’s Manager of the Season award.
The Women’s First Team secured an impressive fourth-place finish in the FA Women’s National League Division One North, while the Veterans completed a remarkable four-trophy season and represented the club at the prestigious TST tournament in the United States.
Across our junior and youth sections, teams continued to develop players, create opportunities and contribute to a truly historic year for the club.
Those achievements are made even more special by the fact that Wythenshawe FC is a community-owned football club.
Success is measured not only by results and trophies, but by the opportunities created, pathways developed and lives positively impacted throughout the club.
